The Health Care Transformation Task Force developed a comprehensive briefer for industry stakeholders on the supplemental benefits offered in the Medicare Advantage (MA) program. The three-page briefer describes the evolution of legislation that established the range of MA supplemental benefits; the expansion of primarily health related benefits to include a greater number of qualifying events; and payer uptake of primarily health related benefits, Special Supplemental Benefits for the Chronically Ill (SSBCI), and COVID-19 related benefits over the past three years.

The increase in MA plans offering primarily health related, SSBCI, and COVID-19 benefits from 2019 to 2021 highlights progress in pursuit of value-based care, and reflects a vision of how alternative payment supports the delivery of person-centered care.
