27 Aug Closing the Gap in MSK Care: Engaging Specialists Through Condition-Based Value Models
The Health Care Transformation Task Force released a new case study featuring Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s (BCBSM) condition-based musculoskeletal (MSK) model, co-created with TRIARQ Health.
The model focuses on caring for patients earlier in their care journey to help patients avoid unnecessary procedures, better manage their conditions, and receive the most appropriate care. BCBSM began implementing this model in 2025 with TRIARQ Health after sunsetting their hip and knee replacement episodes to better impact care prior to surgery.
Preliminary results show a 3.5% reduction in MSK spending for model participants compared to the market trend. BCBSM’s total savings for 2025 are estimated at $10.5 million, with a large portion shared with physician partners.
This publication is part of a series of case studies on value-based specialty integration.
