Earlier this year (2021), the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) began its second decade as an important driver of Medicare payment reform. Much has been learned in the first ten years – both about CMMI’s operations and its model portfolio – and many are eager to see where the Biden Administration will take CMMI next.

This webinar reflected upon the successes, challenges, and lessons learned from CMMI’s first ten years as well as assess what former CMMI directors view as the Center’s key drivers to leverage current and future opportunities to advance value transformation. The panel included Rick Gilfillan, the inaugural CMMI Director under the Obama Administration and Brad Smith, the most recent CMMI Director under the Trump Administration. Rick and Brad shared their unique perspectives on this important institution and its work: past, present, and future.

The panel was moderated by Jeff Micklos, Executive Director of the Health Care Transformation Task Force.
