HCTTF Applauds Secretary Azar’s Statements in Support of Value-Based Transformation

Statement by Jeff Micklos, Executive Director, Health Care Transformation Task Force

“The Health Care Transformation Task Force has urged the Trump Administration to express clear support for the transition to a modern value-based care and payment delivery system to maintain momentum for the move away from fee-for-service payment models. We commend Secretary Azar for answering that call this week by firmly establishing value-based transformation as pillar of his administration during remarks to the Federation of American Hospitals and America’s Health Insurance Plans.

“We agree with Secretary Azar that the pace of transformation has not been fast enough. Barriers are in place today that impede alternative payment model adoption and success. A key barrier is a set of burdensome regulations that hinder adoption of sustainable patient-centered and high-quality care. Another barrier is the lack of clear alignment between the public and private sector on the definition of “value” in payment methodologies, which is needed to ensure effective public and private sector collaboration.

“We appreciate the Secretary’s leadership in addressing these barriers and his commitment to working closely with the private sector to do so. The Task Force looks forward to working with his administration to advance our shared goals.”
