Since its inception, CMMI has been at the epicenter of federal government efforts to reform health care payment and delivery and has served as an effective catalyst in the development and adoption of value-based payment (VBP) models. However, there are factors limiting the impact of CMMI efforts to promote VBP, and ways that federal policymakers can more effectively accelerate value-based transformation. A recent Health Care Transformation Task Force blog featured in Health Affairs shares an overview of the first decade of CMMI, challenges with the current transformation efforts, and outlines five principles for future innovation.
