30 Oct HCTTF Statement Regarding the Medicare Shared Savings Program 2023 Performance Results
Statement by Theresa Dreyer, Interim Executive Director, HCTTF
Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that the Medicare Shared Savings Program saved Medicare more than $2.1 billion in 2023, the largest savings in history. Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) who participate in the program earned shared savings payments totaling $3.1 billion, while scoring better on many quality measures compared to physician groups not in the program.
The Health Care Transformation Task Force celebrates these results and applauds our members who contributed to this accomplishment. With 480 ACOs providing care to nearly 11 million people, the program continues to increase access to high-quality, coordinated, person-centered value-based care. With CMS seeking to expand accountable care to 100 percent of people with Traditional Medicare by 2030, the program is poised for even greater success.
