30 Aug Health Care Transformation Statement Regarding Medicare Shared Savings Program 2021 Performance Results
Statement by Jeff Micklos, Executive Director, HCTTF
With today’s announcement, the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) continues to be the brightest light in value-based care. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services reports that MSSP accountable care organizations saved over $1.6 billion during 2021 while continuing to provide high-quality care to beneficiaries. This marks the fifth straight year that MSSP has achieved savings for the Medicare Trust Funds. Congratulations to all Health Care Transformation Task Force members that contributed to the program’s success in 2021.
With positive new changes being proposed for 2023 and beyond, MSSP remains poised to be the driver of fundamental change to how Medicare beneficiaries receive care for years to come. With Medicare solvency issues looming, the MSSP provides a critical path forward to achieving a modernized, resilient health care system that reduces cost, improves quality, and drives better population health.
