As the health care system continues to get more involved in this space, stakeholders are beginning to ask: what is the appropriate role of health care in addressing the social factors that influence health? Clear and consistent terminology is an essential first step to determining what role the health care system can and should play. The Health Care Transformation Task Force published a Health Affairs blog and released the following infographic describing the distinction among social determinants of health, social risk factors, and social needs in a manner that promotes more precise usage of each term.
