In 2021 the Health Care Transformation Task Force released a paper examining the long-term trends in projected and actual health care spending from 2000 to 2020. The paper highlighted slowing trends in health spending growth over the past decade and discussed the potential factors driving this change, including the payment reform efforts launched in the wake of the Affordable Care Act. In this blog post, the Task Force reviews the results of this analysis, highlights the benefits and challenges of payment model-level evaluations, and discusses how an examination of longer-term spending trends could offer valuable insights for policy makers leading current health reform efforts.
